50 Lbs of Food

My Mom finally arrived last night. After much anticipation, a big thunderstorm, delayed flights, and two layovers Fi arrived safe and sound in Hong Kong! I was excited to show her my new home, but more excited just to see a familiar voice and get a big Mom hug!

We caught the E22 bus back to City U to drop of a very large, filled to the brim suitcase. Fi was not kidding when she said the majority of what she was bringing was food for me (I'm very lucky  to have a personal food courier- I know). By the time the bus dropped us off at the university and we followed all the ridiculous security procedures for bringing a guest into the halls it was close to midnight which is the end of visiting hours. We quickly unloaded, said hi to my not so friendly roommate, and I introduced Fi to Haley.

Tired and exhausted we cabbed over to our hotel in Causeway Bay- The Vela. Snuggled together in a king bed and sleeping on a pillow that is not completely disfigured made me very happy and Fifi too considering she had just hauled herself across the entire world to see me!

As it was dark when we arrived at the hotel last night we were not able to appreciate the fabulous view our balcony offered. Mom got lucky with the room because our balcony opened up to a fantastic view of Happy Valley! Too bad it wasn't a race night.

Body-clock disoriented due to jet lag Mom wasn't quite sure if she was hungry, tired, or just anxious to hit the city. With no real plans except taking thing slow today we headed off to find a place for coffee.

By chance we stumbled upon a great breakfast spot, "The Brunch Club", and I had the best breakfast I've had in months! The eggs were not runny, the toast was not burned, and my juice was surprisingly cold. Lets just say the Asian take on Western food falls far below true Western standards...

After a nice breakfast and time to catch-up on all the gossip back home we headed to Central via MTR. The ticket turnstiles turned out to be a bit of a struggle for Mom but by the end of the day she had it mastered. The majority of our day was spent traveling around on the MTR and completing random errands like money exchange.

Rain and clouds put a bit of a damper on our exploring, but we did get a decent amount of gift shopping done at the Jade market and a cute tea shop. We also managed to squeeze in a cloudy Star Ferry ride and a trip to Marks & Spencers!

With an early flight to Shanghai in the morning we grabbed dinner at a "pub" next to our hotel, each sipped on a beer, and passed out in our bed early to get up at 5am the next day!
