Pizza, Pizza, Rice Pot

This week was a big success in checking items off of the Hong Kong bucket list. Visitors are a great excuse to explore new places.

Saturday night was spent exploring the Temple Street night market and preparing for Stephanie's birthday! Haley and I had fun shopping around at a new market and finding presents for the birthday girl. I also made a trip to Wan Chai after shopping the markets and met up with some of the U.K-ers in a Scottish pub to watch the Wales-Scotland rugby game. The 5 City U girls were the only females in the pub (odds were in our favor if any of us are into balding middle aged men).

Sunday was the big birthday dinner at Pizza Express and a small IU-girls only celebration after with double layer chocolate cake and one balloon that we took from the restaurant!

After pizza two nights in a row (more Western food than I think I should be eating in Asia), Haley's roommate, Grace, offered to take us all to Rice Pot on Monday night. We ended up back in Yau Ma Tei (near Temple Street Market) and went to a very authentic local restaurant. Authentic in Asia means eating in an alley/in the street. Rice pot rice was great (little crunchy pieces around the edge) but the pork was a little questionable. We also had some delicious oyster pancakes for an appetizer. The pancakes were basically fried vegetables and oysters mixed together. Andrew also stretched way out of his comfort zone and added a chicken foot to his rice pot!

Haley, Andrew, and I  headed to the peak after dinner. It was my first trip to the peak at night at I was hoping for some great night skyline pics. We rode the tram up to the top and paid the extra money for the sky observatory (where I could get some great pictures), and surprise surprise the sky was full of smog. No pictures worth taking. My night ended with a walk around central and a trip across the harbour on the Star Ferry. All in all it was an eventful week with a lot of firsts.
